Corvette Enthusiast becomes the latest Corvette magazine to close shop and merge with one of its sister publications. That’s according to an email that was sent on Friday to article contributors by Amos Automotive Publishing. The email announced a new title from Amos called Auto Enthusiast and then dropped the bomb that its seven automotive niche publications which include titles aimed at Corvette, Chevy, Mustang, Mopar and Pontiac enthusiasts would be consolidated under the new title.

The One Lap of Kentucky Road Tour is the National Corvette Museum’s latest in a series of driving and touring events. This inaugural event kicks off October 12th for a five day site-seeing tour of some of Kentucky’s well-known attractions. Leading the tour will be the Kentucky State Police who are using the event to raise funds for Trooper Island, a youth camp supported by the KSP.
An employee of Manheim’s Dallas auto auction has been found out as the guy who took a Corvette ZR1 for a quick spin in a parking lot, with burnouts and power slides part of the non-inspiring repertoire. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t his car and he didn’t have permission and now the dealer that took possession of the ZR1 is demanding his arrest. Earlier this year in May, GM filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Stingray” for use on “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”. This is leading to speculation that GM may be registering the name in advanced of launching the C7 Corvette which is expected sometime between 2012-2014.

Corvette sales are holding steady according to the latest sales report from General Motors. Deliveries of Corvettes in August hit 1,135 units which was 64 cars less than July 2010’s 1,199 sales. Year to date, sales are up 52.1% over August 2009’s dismal 746 Corvettes sold. In fact, August 2010 marks the third straight month of increases over 2009’s deliveries.

This 2006 Corvette Z06 formerly owned by actor Adrien Brody is the latest celebrity-owned Corvette to cross the virtual block on eBay. Vice President of Global Vehicle Engineering Karl-Friedrich Stracke spoke with Automotive News and Autoweek on Tuesday and said the next-generation Corvette C7 will not be a mid-engine sports car and no V6 is planned or being tested.
In a move to shore up public confidence following its stint in bankruptcy court, General Motors on Tuesday unveiled its 2-year product plan for the four core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GM. Included in the Chevrolet news is that production of the C7 Corvette will start in April 2012 for the 2013 model year. GM also added that the Corvette will maintain the front-engine layout that has defined the sports car for 57 years.

This midyear Corvette was parked alongside one of the turns at the famous Nurburgring in Germany and from the video it appears the car was stalled. Not a great place to be as a recent rainstorm had passed through leaving the track wet and several cars had trouble navigating the turn as the video shows. Eventually, the driver got the Corvette started and was able to move to a safer location.

General Motors has released official details on the production 2011 Chevrolet Orlando MPV, which will make its first public appearance at this year's Paris Motor Show. As we reported earlier and confirmed again today, GM has no plans to offer the Orlando in the United States – a shame, too.
RM Auctions sold a small contingent of seven classic Corvettes at their Monterey sale held August 12-14th at the Portola Hotel and Spa. The seven Corvettes ranging from 1953-1963 brought in $789,250 in total Corvette sales.
Last week a Hemmings blog reader alerted the site when his father’s prized possessions, a sunfire yellow 1966 Corvette convertible and a 1969 Camaro SS Clone were stolen from a storage facility in Northwest Arkansas. The good news is both cars were recovered. The Corvette was found hidden in a remote location in the woods while the Camaro was located at a residence.

When Lance Miller set out to return the #3 Briggs Cunningham 1960 Corvette and its driver John Fitch to Le Mans for the 50th anniversary of the cars win, he was accompanied by Corvette collector and documentary filmmaker Michael Brown who captured the experience in HD.
